This ambitious £21 million development, spearheaded by McLaren Construction, marked the first phase of a transformative initiative at Dulwich College. The building, dubbed "The Laboratory," earned accolades for its forward-thinking design, which cleverly exposes structural elements while integrating eco-friendly features such as the Thermally Active Building System (TABS). Spanning three storeys with a reinforced concrete frame on piled foundations, the structure incorporates custom concrete, terracotta, and timber cladding, along with glazed roofing. We also contributed to energy-efficient aspects, including two boreholes for an open-loop ground source cooling system.

A key milestone was the topping-out ceremony on 10 July 2015, celebrating the final steel placement. Simon Yiend, Chief Operating Officer at McLaren, remarked on the occasion: "This is a pivotal moment for us. The Laboratory represents Dulwich College's most substantial investment since the Barry Buildings in 1869, and we're certain it will serve pupils and the wider community for generations."

Our role as a tiling company for main contractors focused on extensive tiling installation for schools, covering multi-level open areas with precision and durability. The facility now boasts 21 state-of-the-art teaching laboratories, five IT suites, communal zones, exhibition spaces linked by walkways – including a display for the iconic James Caird lifeboat – and a 240-seat auditorium. These elements have revitalised the campus core, blending education with innovation.
